29 November 2011
In our November Newsletter We discussed the applications for shop signage, an ATM and plant for an air conditioning unit on the roof.
We had objected to the applications based on the visual impact they would have on the appearance of Pier Street and the Area of Special Character on Marine Parade East. We did not consider they would be acceptable in this Conservation Area.
We met with GBC Planning officers and GBC’s Conservation officer to discuss our concerns and followed them up in a letter>>. Many of our concerns were shared by the planning officers. GBC had further discussions with Tesco’s representatives and as a result Tesco submitted revised documents.
We maintained our objections as although there were some changes the signage was still brightly coloured, the projecting signs remained and the plant on the roof continued to be visible, albeit to a lesser extent.
The revised plans were considered by the Regulatory Board on 22nd November and we gave a verbal deputation>>
Despite our and other objections approval was given to the applications so Tesco will be allowed to erect the signage they finally proposed.
