Open Spaces Survey Report

Thank you to those who completed the survey.  This has been used as a helpful tool to assist us in forming a view of how residents feel the open spaces in Daedalus and the field in Manor Way should be used..

The response rate was lower than expected but the range of replies covered all areas of Lee with a fair distribution of ages from 30 and upwards. The response from under 30’s was minimal possibly due to the way surveys were distributed.

Main points that stood out were:

Most popular use of space

·        Informal space            44%

·        Allotments                  16%

·        Sports facilities            7%

Not surprisingly play areas were more popular with those aged 31-60

The percentage in favour of allotments was relatively similar for those over and under 60. However, a noticeably higher proportion of those over 60 were against allotments than those under 60.

A large percentage of respondents were only willing to travel up to one mile for most recreational uses of land. In some cases this may be realistic with the exception of sports facilities which would need to serve the whole of Lee.
